Simply call our office at 248-655-1400, during the phone hours listed above.  Urgent issues can always be accommodated the same day.  North Woodward Internal Medicine is not an emergency facility and we encourage any emergencies to go to the nearest Emergency Department.

 Canceling Appointments

We  understand that canceling an appointment is sometimes necessary.  If you must cancel or change your appointment, it is requested you kindly give 24 hours notice so that your appointment can be used for the urgent medical needs of other patients. NWIM reserves the right to charge a fee of $25 for no-show appointments.

NWIM has been an innovator in providing weekend visits to avoid those expensive Urgent Care or ER Visits.  If you find yourself not feeling well on a Friday eve or Saturday morning, simply call the office between 8 and 9am.  We provide this service October through March. We'll schedule you for a visit that morning with the on-call doctor.  Simple.

Contacting your Doctor

Timely, efficient and effective communication with your personal physician is imperative for your optimal health.  Therefore, we have various methods to contact our healthcare team.

Phone: During hours of operation, you may call the office.   If your physician is seeing patients and unable to take your call, you will be asked to leave your name, daytime and evening telephone numbers and the nature of your concern. Your doctor or the doctor on call will return your call as soon as possible. Often calls may need to be returned at the end of the day.  Please notify the receptionist about the urgency of your concern, so we may attend to it appropriately.

 

The Patient Portal is the new and only way our patients will be able to contact their physician electronically.  The reason for this is two-fold.  First, the internet is no considered a secure method for transmitting health information.  Secondly, the government is mandating we get patients on our secure portal to communicate more efficiently.  The portal IS NOT an appropriate way  to contact your physician about emergent or urgent issues.  As of January 1, it will be your method to receive lab results and results of tests.  Please sign up for an account soon.

A North Woodward physician is ALWAYS available 24/7 for any concerns that cannot be handled through the portal or during regular business hours.

For contacting your physician after hours call our doctor on call at 248-691-8663. The doctor on call will respond to your call as soon as possible. In case of emergency, call 911 or go directly to the Emergency Center at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak or the closest ER.

HMO Referrals

We probably don't care for your insurance's prior authorization process any more than you do.  However, prior authorizations are likely here to stay.  Please give us 5 working days to get your authorization.  You can leave the information about your specialist visit on the automated phone line or alternatively send a direct message through the patient portal.      

Getting Test Results

Your results are reviewed by the ordering provider within 24 hours of the report.  You will be called if there is any significant abnormality or if further follow up needed.  You may then access your results via the secure patient portal.  If you desire to not use the portal or do not have computer access, you can come by the office to pick up a copy or provide a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will mail them to you.

Medication Refills

Forms and paperwork completion is becoming a bigger part of the healthcare landscape.  Should you require  form completion and do not plan to make a office visit, a fee between $10 and $30 will be required depending on the amount of time required for completion.   Drop off the form at the front desk.  Your physician will review it and you will be notified when it will be ready for pick up and the cost for completion.  Payment will be required at the time of pick up.  

Form Completion

We have utilized electronic prescibing for over 8 years in order to limit errors.  We encourage prescriptions to be filled face-to-face at an appointment.  However, you may also request prescriptions be filled by contacting your pharmacy or pharmacy benefit manager (PBM).  Alternatively, you may leave a message on the automated phone line or sign on to our portal to leave an electronic message.  If a refill is not appropriate due to need for follow-up in the office, a refill request may be decline until an office visit is completed.

Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

Saturday-during cold and flu season, patients may call between 8-9 am to be seen that morning.

 

 

Making Appointments

If your are sick and need a prescription of any sort (aside from refills), you are likely sick enough to be seen in the office.  It is neither good medicine to prescribe medication or render treatment by phone, and we rarely do it. We are more than happy to schedule you for an appointment in a timely fashion.  Just call.

We are often asked if we are taking new patients.  Please understand, that when we accept a new patient, we are making a commitment to provide the highest level care to that individual.  That includes seeing that person in a timely fashion and being able to devote the time necessary to provide the best care possible.  So, please respect our commitment to our existing patients and if we can accept the additional responsibility of more patients, we will.
